Wild-lime is a long-lived perennial tree, usually found in the hammocks and scrub habitats. This tree is noted for its lime-like scent and large thorns. In the winter and spring months, wild-lime blooms yellow and green flowers before producing fruit for the remainder of the year (summer through fall). When placed in full sun to part shade and moist to extremely dry soil, wild-lime will grow up to 20 ft. Wild-lime is an amazing addition to any home garden if given space to grow. Wild-lime can act as a hedge, buffer or screen plant where the thorns can be utilized to an advantage. It should be noted wild-lime is a host plant for the Giant swallowtail and Schaus’ swallowtail. Note: The Schaus swallowtail is a South Florida butterfly. Its tiny fruit is used by birds and other wildlife.
