Swamp Dogwood (Cornus foemina), also known as Stiff Cornel, is a deciduous tree that may grow 10-30 feet tall and 10-20 feet wide. Showy white flowers bloom in spring and blue fruit will appear in summer-early fall. This hurricane wind-resistant tree can be planted in full sun or part to full shade. It prefers moist, wet to well-drained loam, sand or organic material (muck) with acidic pH. This tree is the larval host for the Cecropia silkmoth and Spring Azure butterfly. Birds and small mammals consume the fruit.
