Horizontal Cocoplum (Chrysobalanus icaco var. horizontal) is an evergreen shrub or small tree that may grow 6 feet tall. This “Horizontal” variety of Cocoplum branches horizontally and can be used as groundcover; however, you will have to trim it yearly to prevent it from growing to 6 feet. It produces white flowers and white, pinkish fruit. Plant it in full sun or light shade in dry to moist clay or sand that is acidic to alkaline. Provide extra watering for the first two years to establish and fill in. It provides food and shelter for wildlife.
