Native Strawberry (Fragaria virginiana) is an herbaceous perennial that grows low (less than a foot). It spreads approximately 1-2 feet and would be a good groundcover. Plant it in rich, sandy loam with medium moisture for it thrive, and it will tolerate full sun to partial shade. It has showy, white flowers and edible fruit. It's deer and drought tolerant but it attracts birds.
