Persimmon (Diospyros virginiana) is a large tree that may reach 35-60 feet tall and 15-35 feet wide. It produces white flowers and edible, orange fruit. Plant it in full sun or part shade in clay, loam or sand that is usually kept moist. This hurricane wind-resistant tree is the larval host for several moths: Royal walnut moth, Pecan Carpenterworm moth, Pin-striped Slug moth, Wittfeld's forester, Hag moth, and Luna moth.
