Black Cherry Tree (Prunus serotina) is a long-lived perennial that may grow up to 70 feet. It produces showy, white flowers that bloom in the spring. Black fruit ripens in the fall and are eaten by birds and other animals. Plant it in full sun to part shade in moist but well-drained loam or sand. It prefers an acidic soil pH level but it is moderately adaptable.
This tree is the larval host for the Tiger Swallowtail.
Note: The leaves and twigs are highly poisonous to humans, pets and livestock.
