Dwarf Crested Iris (Iris cristata) is a low-growing, rhizomatous perennial native to the eastern United States. It produces pale blue to purplish flowers open over a two-week period in spring, each bloom adorned with ornate sepals marked by yellow or white patches outlined in purple. Growing just 4–6 inches tall, it forms a graceful groundcover that remains attractive through fall. Ideal for rock gardens, woodland edges, or the foreground of perennial borders, it thrives in partial sun and well-drained soils. Once established, it is drought-tolerant and supports up to 12 Lepidoptera species, making it a quiet champion for pollinators and native landscapes.
