Alligator Flag (Thalia geniculata) is a perennial aquatic plant that typically grows in marshy areas, swamps, and along the banks of slow-moving streams and ponds. It prefers wet soils that are rich in organic matter and can tolerate a wide range of water depths, from shallow to several feet deep. Alligator Flag requires full sun to partial shade and thrives in warm temperatures, making it well-suited to the tropical and subtropical climates of the southern United States, Central, and South America. It can grow up to 10 feet tall and produces striking spikes of blue-purple flowers in late summer and fall.
