Black Eyed Susan (Rudbeckia hirta var. Floridana) is an annual perennial that will tolerate full sun and prefers rich, moist but well-drained soil to thrive. Although, it does have the capacity to survive in dry conditions. Space plants 18-24 inches apart as it readily self-seeds.
These yellow wildflowers grow 2-3 feet tall and produce beautiful yellow flowers from spring to fall. A great companion for Purple Coneflowers and our native grasses, Black-eyed Susan seeds fuel finches and other small birds in the fall and early winter.
