Rudbeckia triloba is a short-lived herbaceous perennial with many common names include Brown-Eyed Susan, Branched Coneflower, Thin-Leaved Coneflower and Three-Lobed Coneflower. This flowering plant is in the sunflower family native to Central and Eastern United States. The plant’s dark green basal leaves are slightly hairy. It is often seen in old fields or along roadsides. It is also cultivated as an ornamental. Typically blooms June through October and can get 3-6' tall. It likes Sun or part shade, dry to moist soils, drought-tolerant and adapts to several hours of shade.  It propagates easily from seeds sown in fall or spring. It makes an excellent cut flower and complements any of the tall native grasses and common prairie wildflowers.
