Butterfly Sage (Varronia globosa) is a long-lived perennial evergreen shrub. Also known as Bloodberry and Curacao bush. This plant makes an excellent background shrub in any garden. It can reach 6-10 feet in height. All year long you can see the beautiful white flowers and red berries of Butterfly Sage. This plant does best in full sun with somewhat moist to very dry soil. Butterfly Sage is well suited for coastal environments as it is salt tolerant but cannot tolerate direct salt spray. The berries of Butterfly Sage are excellent food for birds and the flowers are a wonderful nectar source for some of Florida's bigger butterflies.
