Aristolochia tomentosa - known as Wooly dutchman's pipevine because the flower resembles a Dutch smoking pipe. This perennial's native range includes the southeastern and South Central United States. This native woody plant is a host plant for both the Pipevine and Polydamas swallowtail butterflies. It does best in part shade to full sun. It is a vigorous vine with large heart-shaped leaves and can reach 20-30 feet. It grows great on a trellis, arbor, fence, can climb trees and makes a nice screen in your garden when growing on higher structures. It likes medium moisture, well-drained soil and does not like to dry out. It can die back if the winter is extremely harsh and we have a freeze. It is propagated from seed. This plant is listed as endangered in Florida.
