Starry Rosinweed ' Double Ray' (Silphium asteriscus) is a unique variation of the Starry Rosinweed, distinguished by its double set of petals, creating a fuller and more striking appearance. This robust wildflower thrives naturally in flatwoods, sandhills, and disturbed areas, making it a hardy and adaptable plant. Its large, bright yellow flowerheads—measuring up to 2½ inches in diameter—bloom abundantly from June to September, drawing in a variety of pollinators, including butterflies, native bees, and other insects. Additionally, its seeds provide a valuable food source for songbirds, further enhancing its ecological significance.

This short-lived perennial grows between 2 and 5 feet in height with a spread of 1 to 2 feet. It flourishes in full sun to partial shade and prefers sandy or loamy soil with a pH between 5.1 and 7.6. Starry Rosinweed 'Double Ray' is drought tolerant and adapts to lightly moist to dry conditions, although it does not tolerate salty environments. As a prolific self-seeder, this plant is an excellent choice for maintaining vibrant and sustainable gardens. Its winter dormancy and resilience make it a practical and beautiful addition to natural landscapes, while its ability to attract pollinators and feed wildlife adds valuable ecological benefits.
