'Jack Melton' Flame Azalea (Rhododendron flammeum) is a low maintenance flowering shrub. Plant it in well-drained moist to dry soils, with a 4.5 - 6.0 (acidic) pH level, in an area that gets part sun (preferably morning sun). Vivid red flowers will bloom in the spring but flowers may have a yellowish hue if exposed to more sunlight. Once established, this shrub is drought tolerant and will tolerate heat and humidity. This shrub with its large clusters of funnel-shaped showy flowers will attract butterflies.
