Jamaica Caper (Quadrella jamaicensis) is a low maintenance shrub/tree that may grow to 6-12 feet tall. Some reach heights of 18 feet with a spread of 6-10 feet. It produces fragrant, showy flowers that are white when they first open then turn pinkish-purple. Its fruit are tan/brown pods. It will tolerate full sun to partial shade. Plant it in well-drained humus (organic), lime rock or sand with neutral to calcareous (high) PH levels. It is drought, wind and salt tolerant. Birds will consume the fruit and this shrub will attract other pollinators. It is the larval host for the Florida white butterflies.
