'Little Gem' Magnolia (Magnolia grandiflora) is a slow growing, flowering tree. While it prefers part shade, it will grow in full sun as well. Soil (sand/loam or clay) must be well-drained and may occasionally tolerate wet conditions but it does not like extremes (dry or wet) for long periods of time. It may grow to 15-20 feet tall as compact, small tree or shrub during the first 20 years of being planted. Enjoy fragrant white flowers, that can grow up to 4 inches in diameter, during the summer months (May to July). The leaves are glossy green and brownish/bronze underneath. Birds love to eat the brownish red fruit.
