This long-lived perennial tree grows to about 10' tall and 10' wide with whimsical fringe-like showy white flowers blooming in spring and the leaves fall in the fall for the tree to rest during the winter months. This tree does not like to be near salt water. It likes the dryer side and sandy soil of scrub and scrubby flatwoods. The brown fruit is enjoyed by birds and other wildlife. Bees and other pollinators enjoy the flowers and it is thought this plant is bee-pollinated. This tree is listed as endangered by both the State of Florida and the USFWS. Make sure you acquire this species from a legitimate native nursery.
