Sugar Apple (Annona squamosa L.), also known as custard apple, is a deciduous tree that grows 15-20 feet tall and wide though periodic pruning can keep it below 8-12 ft.  It produces green flowers and edible purple-red or green fruit with a custard-like pulp that is pleasantly sweet.  Plant it in full sun, in well-drained sand or limestone.  Ideal temperatures range from 73 to 94°F. Trees are not not tolerant of excessively wet soil or flooding and should be selectively pruned every year to maintain optimum fruit production.
