Also known as St. John's mint and Creeping Charlie, Browne's savory is a long-lived tiny leaved mint that is an aquatic perennial wildflower with a sprawling growth habit. The flowers have purple splotches on petals and in throat. The entire plant is fragrant. It can be found along swales, lake edges and in freshwater wetlands, floodplain forests and wet disturbed sites throughout much of the Southeast. In Florida it can be found naturally only in central and northern Florida. It blooms all year and prefers its feet damp most of the time, hence its reference as the “aquatic mint.” This plant grows in all kinds of soil as long as it is constantly damp, full sun to partial shade. It can be used fresh or dried, make a very nice tea or flavoring. I guess we get that this plant likes to stay wet!
