Beach Tea (Croton punctatus) is a moderate to slow-growing shrub that makes a great groundcover. It is a Florida native but considered rare even though it has an extensive geographic range in our coastal areas, uplands and dunes on both the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts. It has silvery grey leaves and it is a dense shrub that grows in mounds roughly 1-3 feet in height and width. It requires full sun with well-drained sandy soil but is drought tolerant once established in the landscape. It produces small inconspicuous, fragrant white flowers that do not have petals that bloom all year. After the blooms it will yield small clusters of green berries. It is salt tolerant. Hardiness zones include 8a, 9a, 9b, 10a, 10b.
