Coastal doghobble (Leucothoe axillaris) is an evergreen shrub found in swamps, wet hammocks and flatwoods, and along stream edges. Its profusion of spring to early summer blooming flowers is pollinated primarily by bees. Flowers are white to pinkish-white, waxy and urn- or bell-shaped. This long-lived perennial has an approximate 4-6 foot equal spread and is with attractive dark green leathery leaves. It likes well drained soil with shady to partial shade conditions. A good choice for foundation plant.
