Coral Bean (Erythrina herbacea) is a showy perennial that requires very little effort; it is a great nectar source for butterflies and hummingbirds love them also. It tolerates full sun to full shade light conditions. It can go winter dormant and lose its leaves in the Tampa Bay area. It will typically bloom in the spring. It does have small thorns. To propagate from seed, you will need to scratch the seeds, or rub them with something that has a slight abrasiveness to it. It is recommended to wear gloves to avoid the poison from these seeds. You can also root from cuttings. It can do well in dry sites and edges of wooded areas.
