Garberia (Garberia heterophylla) is a long-lived evergreen shrub. Garberia can be found in the woody shrubby areas of scrub and xeric hammock ecosystems within central Florida. The Garberia’s tubular pink and purple flowers bloom in the late fall. This plant serves as an excellent nectar source for butterflies and other pollinators. Gaberia does best in dry, well-drained, sandy acidic soil and is drought tolerant. It is not known to be tolerant of wet conditions and is sensitive to large amounts of rainfall. Gaberia can grow to a height between 3-5 feet. In a garden setting, this plant works best in dry , sunny areas with a mixture of plants. Once established, Gaberias do not require frequent irrigation.
