Georgia Aster is a magnet for bees and butterflies with its large violet flowers. The Georgia Aster (Symphyotrichum georgianum) is a perennial plant that is native to the southeastern United States, primarily found in Georgia but also found in Alabama, Tennessee, and South Carolina. In Florida its native range is only in Leon county. Due to its limited range this plant has made it onto the state threatened species list. It typically grows in dry, sandy or rocky soils, in full sun to partial shade, and can tolerate drought conditions. The plant can reach up to 3 feet in height and produces clusters of vibrant purple flowers in the late summer and early fall. Georgia Aster is an excellent addition to wildflower gardens.
