Giant Ironweed (Vernonia gigantea) is a perennial that can grow approximately 5-8 feet and spreads 3-6 feet. Showy, rose-purple flowers bloom in the late summer to the fall (August to September) then are replaced with clusters of rusty colored seeds. It tolerates full sun to part shade with medium to wet soil. This is a low maintenance plant that is deer-resistant and is a great nectar source.
