Golden polypody fern - Phelbodium Aureum ) is an evergreen, epiphytic fern native to Florida's hammocks and swamps. Famous for its wavy, blue-green fronds and fuzzy, golden-scaled rhizomes, it primarily grows high up in the "boots" of native Cabbage Palms (Sabal palmetto) and Southern Live Oaks. This is a long-lived perennial which reproduces by spores. While it is typically found growing in trees, it can also be grown in soil as part of a shade garden. It prefers shade to partial shade and doesn’t like to be too dry or too wet. It is not salt tolerant of inundation but can handle some salty wind. It growns about 2 feet tall and about 2 feet wide and gives a nice Florida tropical look in the garden.
