Lignum Vitae (Guaiacum sanctum) is an extremely slow-growing evergreen tree that may reach 10-30 feet tall with a spread of 8-12 feet. It will produce showy, bluish-purple flowers and yellow-orange fruit that does not attract wildlife. Plant it in well-drained, acidic, alkaline, clay, loam or sandy soil. It will tolerate full sun to partial shade and is both drought and salt tolerant. Prune it regularly to obtain a strong structure.
