Man-in-the-ground aka Wild potato morning glory is a creeping and twining short-lived perennial vine that grows 5-10 feet. It has show-stopping rose-colored trumpet-shaped flowers. It flowers most of the year but peaks spring through fall, and typically goes dormant in the winter. The red flowers have deep tubes with five points. While it is a year-round bloomer, this plant likes full sun and is a great nectar source for hummingbirds. Native to South Florida’s globally critically imperiled pine rocklands, this plant prefers a more alkaline soil. Alkaline conditions are common in coastal soils and the mineral soils of south Florida. It is also common to encounter alkaline soils in the home landscape as a result of calcium carbonate-rich building materials (i.e., concrete, stucco, etc.)

Note: Can become dormant above ground for extended lengths of time.
