This short-lived perennial has beautiful showy purple flowers that can be light or dark purple in color. I find it throws off volunteers/sprouts in my garden which can be left to grow where they plant themselves or transplanted. This is an excellent climbing vine given proper support.  Once the fruit has dried, the shriveled fruit can be opened showing the brown seeds.  It is ideal to plant the seeds right away after removing them.  Passion vine can also be grown from cuttings if kept moist while getting established. It is moderately salt tolerant and doesn’t seem to mind sandy soils. It is the host plant for the Gulf Fritillary, Zebra Longwing and Julia butterflies.  Be prepared to share this vine as all of these caterpillars are big eaters and provide the service of keeping these vines trimmed.  The fruit can be eaten and I hear it makes great jam.
