The Royal Palm is a long-lived perennial evergreen that can grow up to 50 – 100ft tall and 15 -30 ft wide. It can live more than 100 years! It produces yellow flowers and purplish fruit. It requires full sun to partial shade and is drought-tolerant once established. Plant it in moist, well-drained loam or sand with neutral to acidic pH level. This hurricane-resistant palm tree is the larval host for the monk skipper. Birds and other wildlife eat the fruit. It is also a host plant for the Monk skipper.
