Sand hill wireweed - Polygonella robusta, also known as largeflower jointweed, is a short-lived perennial shrub endemic to Florida. It thrives in the nutrient-poor, extremely dry, and well-drained sandy soils of longleaf pine sandhills and scrub habitats, producing showy spikes of white to pink flowers typically in the fall. It also has showy fruit! It grows to about 2-3’ tall and up to 2 feet wide with woody, brittle and stiff stems. This plant is endemic to Florida and grows in zones 8B – 10B. It is drought tolerant! It will go semi dormant in the winter months. It is not salt tolerant at all. Loves Florida sandy soil! A great nectar source for native bees and butterflies and the birds love the seeds.
